Mogadishu , Somalia (Onkod Radio Online) Senator Hassan Kobac hailed the Hiiraan peace negotiations as a transformative victory for Hirshabelle State, amid repeated inter-clan fighting that shook the region.

Hiiraan region has long been plagued by internecine conflicts, undermining the national fight against Al-Shabaab militants and dividing Somali society. Clashes between rival clan militias have not only weakened national unity but also drawn members of the Somali National Army (SNA) into the disputes, compromising their critical mission to ensure stability and security.

As  humanitarian Advocate and Champion of Peace in Somalia,  Senator Hassan Kobac, a distinguished member of Somalia’s Upper House (Senate), has emerged as a beacon of peace and unity amidst the turmoil in the Hiiraan region of Hirshabelle State. Renowned for his tireless humanitarian advocacy, the Senator has played a pivotal role in fostering reconciliation and building bridges among warring communities, bringing renewed hope to a region scarred by inter-clan strife.

In an interview with Radio Mogadishu, Somalia’s state-run broadcaster, Senator Kobac hailed the recent peace negotiations in the Hiiraan region as a transformative victory for Hirshabelle State. The talks, which were mediated by senior government officials including the Minister of Petroleum and the Chief of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), culminated in a historic agreement among the Hawadle clan elders. The settlement not only resolved lingering grievances but also reaffirmed the clan’s commitment to the unity and development of Hirshabelle State.

“What is unfolding in Hiiraan is nothing short of a triumph for the entire region,” Senator Kobac declared. “The unity of Hirshabelle is unshakable, and I urge Somalis everywhere to prioritize reconciliation and work toward a peaceful and prosperous future.”

The Hawadle clan’s prior attempts to establish a separate Hiiraan State reflected their frustration with Hirshabelle’s administration. However, the Senator’s compassionate and resolute efforts, along with those of other key government leaders, convinced the elders to rejoin the regional framework, strengthening the collective foundation of Hirshabelle State.

This sparked a cycle of violence and drew attention to the urgent need for reconciliation. In a show of judicial accountability and social healing, Somalia’s military court swiftly issued warrants for the perpetrators while clan-based negotiations facilitated a resolution to the conflict.

Recognizing the grave implications of this discord, Senator Kobac has stepped forward as a peacemaker, uniting communities in pursuit of shared progress and harmony and called tfor the communities to put a side their difference and a build peaceful and presperious societies.

“These negotiations hold additional significance against the backdrop of a recent tragic incident in the El-Baraf district, where six government soldiers lost their lives in clashes with clan militias.” Senator Kobac added.

Senator Kobac’s commitment to justice and dialogue was instrumental in bringing stability to the affected communities.

Beyond domestic peace-building, Senator Kobac has championed international diplomacy as a cornerstone of Somalia’s resurgence. Speaking on the recent peace agreement between Somalia and Ethiopia, he lauded President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s diplomatic acumen in resolvinglongstanding disputes. “Prolonged discord with Ethiopia serves neither nation’s interests,” Senator Kobac noted. “This agreement is a significant diplomatic milestone that not only restores trust but also paves the way for mutual progress.”

Relations between Somalia and Ethiopia had soured following Ethiopia’s controversial Memorandum of Understanding with Somaliland, the breakaway region of Somalia. The agreement, which granted Ethiopia sea access, was staunchly opposed by Somalia’s federal

government. Senator Kobac’s praise for the President’s success underscores his belief in diplomacy as a vehicle for stability, both at home and across borders.

As a relentless advocate for peace, unity, and humanitarian progress, Senator Hassan Kobac continues to inspire hope for a more inclusive and harmonious Somalia. His leadership, characterized by empathy, dialogue, and unwavering commitment, demonstrates the power of collective action in healing a fractured society. His call to Somalis worldwide to invest in unity and development is a resonant reminder of the nation’s enduring potential for greatness when united by shared purpose
