Nairobi, Kenya (Onkod Radio) In a moment of continental recognition and pride, Somali businessman, philanthropist, and Senator, Hassan Idow Muhumed Kobac, has been honored with the Independent Pan-African Youth Parliament’s Humanitarian Visionary Award during a high-level summit held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The award ceremony, which formed part of a three-day summit, brought together over 50 youth leaders, policymakers, academics, and civil society representatives from across Africa. The event focused on youth-driven solutions to pressing continental challenges, including education, employment, leadership, democracy, climate change, and digital innovation.

Senator Kobac was among a distinguished group of recipients recognized for their extraordinary contributions to humanitarian work and youth empowerment across Africa.
“I am honoured to receive this important award which is the recognition of the humanitarian work I have been doing in Somalia for more than a decade and all other humanitarian workers,” Kobac said during his acceptance speech.

“The award not only encourages humanitarian workers like myself but also boosts the morale of all those working tirelessly to uplift vulnerable communities across Somalia and beyond.”

Champion of Hope in Somalia
Senator Hassan Kobac is widely hailed as a transformative figure in Somali society; an unwavering advocate for the vulnerable and a true symbol of hope in challenging times. His journey from successful business leader to esteemed senator and humanitarian is defined by a tireless commitment to public service and community empowerment.
At the heart of his humanitarian legacy is the Hassan Kobac Foundation (HKF), an organization he founded to directly address the multifaceted crises plaguing Somalia and beyond. The foundation has become a critical lifeline for thousands of families affected by drought, displacement, and chronic poverty.

Amidst one of the most devastating droughts in Somalia’s recent history, the HKF rose to the challenge by launching large-scale emergency relief operations in the Hiiraan region. Through initiatives such as emergency water trucking, food ration distribution, and support for internally displaced communities, the foundation has transformed despair into resilience for countless households.

Celebrated Leadership and Legacy
Earlier this year, Senator Kobac’s impactful tenure in the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia was celebrated in a major event organized by the Hiiraan Youth Association in Beledweyne. The gathering, attended by civic leaders, scholars, youth groups, and elders, served as a tribute to Kobac’s unwavering service and legislative advocacy over four years.

Often described as “the voice of the people of Hirshabelle,” Senator Kobac has emerged as a pivotal figure in defending the rights of marginalized communities and driving forward inclusive development. His vision is grounded in restoring dignity, fostering opportunity, and empowering Somalia’s youth, a mission that continues to resonate deeply with his constituents and admirers across the Horn of Africa.
“My goal is to create a better life for the Somali people and restore their dignity,” he said in Nairobi, reiterating a core belief that has guided his public service.

A True Visionary in Action
Senator Kobac’s legacy extends beyond immediate humanitarian relief. Under his leadership, the HKF has prioritized long-term empowerment programs including youth skills training, small business support, and women’s livelihood initiatives. These efforts aim to build sustainable pathways out of poverty and bolster community resilience against future crises.

His work has earned him widespread respect both domestically and internationally. With this most recent accolade from the Independent Pan-African Youth Parliament, Senator Kobac’s influence as a humanitarian leader has now been recognized on a continental stage.

As Somalia and much of the continent face mounting challenges, leaders like Hassan Idow Muhumed Kobac stand as beacons of hope and integrity; proof that committed leadership rooted in compassion can chart a path toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
