Mogadishu, Somalia (Onkod Radio) Residents in Mogadishu’s Dayniile district on Saturday morning a staged a protest against the government land grab, local media reported. Similar protests have been going on in Mogadishu’s Siinaay neighbourhood and Yaqshid.
The government have been taking over lands occupied by locals who have been living there over more than 2 decades, some claiming that they have legally bought and have legal documents.
Ambitious business elites have been pushing to the government to take over land which have changed hands several over sales with legal documents to take back, a step which angered the locals. The government have met resistance on several areas where they tried to grab the lands, some of them leading to deaths and injuries.
This week, similar protested erupted in Mogadishu’s Siinaay neighbourhood, where residents vowed to resist any attempt to hand over their land to what they identified as business people.
